Study on students' satisfaction with using Chatbot on Facebook's messenger platform to learn Chinese vocabulary

Abstract

In the context of the ever-evolving scientific and technological revolution and the strong globalization trend, proficiency in foreign languages ​​becomes extremely important because this is the bridge between countries in all areas of life. Currently, using some technological applications in learning foreign languages is becoming a new trend in the digital edge. A chat box product (Chatbot) integrated into Facebook's Messenger platform helps students majoring in Chinese language review vocabulary in Boya Chinese textbooks at elementary and intermediate levels, including three main functions: learning vocabulary, checking an online dictionary and reviewing vocabulary. This research is conducted in order to assess students' satisfaction with the functions of Chatbot with the participation of 101 students majoring in the Chinese language at Hanoi University of Industry. The result indicates that Chatbot stimulates students' interest with user-friendly configuration to improve students' academic performance. The higher Chinese proficiency learners have, the more stringent requirements they have for study methods and the capacity to provide vocabulary from Chatbot. This application's preface significantly impacts learners' emotions during their learning progress.

Dinh Bich Thao, Hanoi University of Industry, Ha Noi, Vietnam

Dr. Dinh Bich Thao is currently a Director of the Quality Assurance, Testing, and Assessment Center, at Hanoi University of Industry, Vietnam. She received her Ph.D. degree from China Jilin University in 2015. Her research interests are Linguistics and Applied Linguistics, Chinese language teaching methodology, and Online teaching and learning.

 

 

Ung Thuy Linh, Hanoi University of Industry, Ha Noi, Vietnam

Dr. Ung Thuy Linh is currently a teacher of the Chinese language at Hanoi University of Industry, Vietnam. She received her Ph.D. degree from China, Guangzhuo Normal University, in 2020. Her research interest is Language characters.

 

 

Nguyen Nhan Ha, Hanoi University of Industry, Ha Noi, Vietnam

Mr. Nguyen Nhan Ha is currently a staff of the Quality Assurance, Testing, and Assessment Center, at Hanoi University of Industry, Vietnam. He received his MA degree from Hanoi University of Industry in 2021. His research interests are Language teaching methodology, Online teaching, and learning.

Nguyen Thi Ha Thuy, Hanoi University of Industry, Ha Noi, Vietnam

Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ha Thuy is currently a teacher of the Chinese language at Hanoi University of Industry, Vietnam. She received her MA degree from Vietnam National University, Hanoi University of Languages & International Studies (ULIS) in 2015. Her research interests are Chinese language teaching methodology, Online teaching, and learning, and service learning.
